LO1: Regulations and Legal considerations

GEORGIA

For our short film, we need to take into consideration some of the regulation, ethical and legal issues surrounding our production and actual content of our project. In terms of our regulation issues, our short film would need to be age rated in terms of appropriate language, violent imagery or any upsetting content. By setting an age rating for our short film, we avoid getting sued for offending or damaging our audience as it limits certain groups of people. We think that the BBFC would give our short film a 12A age rating as it doesn't include any graphic details but some parts are triggering such as the mental health and DID reveal. 'Our Life' is going to be distributed to all team members, meaning they will each have a copy of the short film. We would upload this video to Youtube and then link it onto our blogs.

Some legal issues which need to be addressed in our short film is health and safety. We counter these by completing some risk assessment forms to assess each possible risk of our location and filming, and therefore how to prevent it or lower the harm of the risk. Another legal issue is getting permission from people to use their image or their resources. An example of this is when we emailed Emma, our school counsellor, to ask for her permission to use her office to film in. We also need to create a consent form for our actors's parents to sign as they are underage and need their parents permission to be in our short film.

The ethical issues mostly needed to consider for our short film is how we are going to represent mental health. Due to our topic being sensitive and can possibly be triggering to some certain individuals, who could be in our audience, we need to be careful to how we address Dissociative Identity Disorder. Within our short film, we have decided to reveal the diagnosis at the end with the writing on the therapist's clipboard. By doing this, we avoid the more sensitive topics as we don't explicitly say DID or talk about trauma directly to the audience.
